A mother’s help is someone who looks after the child/children in the family home, either with sole charge or with a parent present. A mother’s help can only have sole charge of children aged 3 or older. A mother’s help holds no professional childcare qualifications, but has practical experience and a genuine interest in children. A mother’s help can take responsibility for all duties relating to the children, including cooking, washing and ironing for them, as well as cleaning the children’s bedrooms and playroom.
A mother’s help should not have sole charge of children under 3 years. They may work up to 10 hours per day, as well as 2 evenings babysitting. Salaries range from £110 - £225 net for a live-in position depending on the hours worked.
£7 - £10 per hour if you live-out. If you live out, babysitting is paid separately, upon agreement.
